A 60-year-old man on Monday committed self-immolation at Tamil Nadu's Sivakasi area upset over the Sri Lankan Tamils’ issue, the 10th such case reported from the state in recent months, the police said. Marimuthu, stated to be a former Congress activist, died after he set himself ablaze in front of his house located in Virdhunagar district. Police claimed to have recovered a letter purportedly written by him in which he had said, "neither the Tamil Nadu Government nor Central Government is serious about ending the conflict in Sri Lanka". He also said in the letter that the party should tie up with the DMDK headed by actor-turned politician Vijayakanth in the coming Lok Sabha polls, as "his party strongly supported the Sri Lankan Tamils’ cause". Before setting himself on fire, Marimuthu hoisted the Congress flag in front of his house, police said. So far 10 persons have committed self immolation in different districts of the state, calling for action on the Sri Lankan Tamils’ issue.
